President Aoun: Lebanon Seeks Best Ties With Iran
BEIRUT (Dispatches) – Iran’s Parliament speaker Muhammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji here Sunday.
Ghalibaf and Araghchi travelled to Lebanon at the head of large Iranian delegation to attend the funeral of Hezbollah leaders Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Safieddine.
Aoun told the delegation that Beirut is seeking to build the best relations with Tehran.
Ghalibaf said, “Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty are very important to Iran and the country is ready to play a role in the reconstruction of Lebanon along with Arab and Islamic countries.”
The speaker further conveyed Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian’s greetings to Aoun and invited him to visit Tehran.
Earlier speaking upon arrival at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport, the speaker said he would examine threats posed to Lebanon and Hezbollah, and emphasize the strengthening of bilateral relations between Iran and Lebanon.
“Iran will undoubtedly support any consensus between the Lebanese government, parliament, resistance, and people,” he added.
Foreign Minister Araghchi said the procession proved that the Axis of Resistance and Hezbollah are alive.
“The path of resistance will keep moving forward, and with a history of significant wins, it is set to secure the ultimate triumph,” he said.
The foreign minister said that two of the most valiant figures in Lebanon dedicated themselves to efforts to drive out Israel from the territories it had occupied, ultimately earning a prestigious status as martyrs.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the participation of the Iranian delegation at the funeral procession demonstrated Tehran’s position in solidarity with the anti-Israel resistance.
The participation of a high-ranking Iranian delegation at the funeral shows Iran has kept supporting the legitimate resistance of Lebanon and Palestine against occupation and aggression, he said.
Writing on X, Baghaei said, “Today the peace-loving people across the globe and the West Asia alongside Muslims and Lebanese people pay tribute to two great martyrs Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, who devoted their whole life to the cause of humanity & dignity by standing up against brutal occupation, oppression and injustice.
“They symbolize graceful resistance against occupation & aggression and heroic support for Palestinian people’s legitimate struggle for fundamental right of self-determination & dignified life.
“They are immortal now; every Muslim, and indeed every man/women of good conscience, will always remember & exalt these devout heroes for their exemplary steadfastness, bravery and sacrifice in support of their fellow Muslims in occupied Palestine and for their patriotism and love of their home land,” he added.
