Iran Reiterates ‘Firm Support’ for Lebanon After Ceasefire
TEHRAN – Iran on Wednesday welcomed a ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah and Israel, reaffirming the Islamic Republic’s unwavering support for the Lebanese government, nation and its resistance movement.
In a statement, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei reiterated Iran’s “firm support for the Lebanese government, nation and resistance”.
Tehran, he said, has long underlined the need for an immediate cessation of Israeli aggression against Gaza and Lebanon, and has undertaken extensive diplomatic efforts over the last 14 months toward that goal.
He said the Zionist entity’s warmongering policies and atrocities, with the full support of the United States and certain European states, have resulted in the martyrdom of 60,000 innocent people, injury of 120,000 individuals, displacement of more than 3.5 million people from the oppressed Palestinian and Lebanese nations, and widespread destruction of critical infrastructure in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
“In light of interim rulings of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to prevent genocidal acts [in Gaza], and the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrants for the leaders of the Zionist regime on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, the world public opinion had been demanding an end to war and genocide over the past 14 months, and is now looking forward to the prosecution and punishment of the criminals of the occupying regime,” Baghaei stated.
The spokesman emphasized that the international community has a responsibility to safeguard peace and stability in West Asia, and exert effective pressure on the aggressive Israeli regime to stop the war on Gaza.
Parliament Speaker Muhammad Bagher Ghalibaf expressed gratitude for the resilience of Hezbollah fighters in defending Lebanese territory.
“We are thankful to God Almighty that the people of Lebanon can now spend this night in peace, away from the criminal bombardments of the Zionist regime,” Ghalibaf stated during a press conference.
He also praised Hezbollah’s fighters, saying they fought with honor, bravery, and wisdom, ensuring that not even an inch of their land fell into enemy hands despite immense pressure.
The Iranian speaker expressed hope that the peace established in Lebanon would extend to Gaza.
Ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani said Iran stands firm by the side of the Lebanese people to help heal wounds and mitigate the effects of the Zionist regime’s aggressions.
In a post on his X account, Amani said similar to the victories of 2000 and 2006, Lebanon “once again achieved a new divine victory this year through heroic resistance on the battlefield.”
“This victory was achieved thanks to the unwavering support of the firm and resolute official stance, a steadfast army, and unprecedented, widespread popular solidarity across cities and regions throughout the country,” he said.
The Iranian ambassador said this “golden equation” has always thwarted the aggressive objectives of the Zionist regime and ensured the dignity and honor of Lebanon.
“I congratulate the people of Lebanon and all segments of this nation on this proud victory, which the [leader] of the Islamic Resistance, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, had foretold. His spiritual presence in every stage and detail of this confrontation, along with the commanders and resistance fighters, served as inspiration and guidance. He had reiterated his historic statement: ‘We will undoubtedly achieve victory.’”
Amani said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran, as always, stands by the honorable people of Lebanon to help heal wounds and address the consequences of the Zionist regime’s aggressions, which bring nothing but destruction and ruin. Long live Lebanon!”
