HASAKAH (Dispatches) – A military facility housing U.S. occupation forces in Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah has reportedly come under rocket attacks from nearby areas, as Washington continues deployment of troops in energy-rich regions of the war-ravaged Arab country to further plunder its natural resources.
Several rockets were fired at the U.S. military base in al-Shaddadi town, which lies on the southern outskirts of the provincial capital city of Hasakah, early on Sunday, Sabereen News, a Telegram news channel associated with Iraqi anti-terror Popular Mobilization Units – better known by the Arabic name Hashd al-Sha’abi – reported.
The report added it was not quickly confirmed whether the projectiles inflicted any casualties or material damage. It was not immediately clear where the rockets were fired from.
The sources added that the explosions were followed by an intense flight of U.S. military aircraft over the area.
Earlier this month, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported that several explosions were heard at a military base housing U.S. occupation forces near al-Omar oil field in the country’s eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr.
The United States has reportedly dispatched two separate convoys of trucks, carrying arms, logistic supplies and military vehicles to Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah from Iraq.
Local media outlets reported that the U.S. military convoys entered the oil-rich province from Iraqi territories to reinforce military bases run by the U.S. troops there.
The reports added that the first convoy consisted of 50 vehicles, and was carrying cement blocks, prefabricated walls, security booths and Panzer armored vehicles. It headed towards the American bases located in the vicinity of al-Omar oil field.
The second convoy, also including 50 trucks, was carrying military equipment and armored vehicles, and entered Tell Beydar base in the north of Hasaka city.
The U.S. military has for long stationed its forces and equipment in northeastern Syria, with the Pentagon claiming that the deployment is aimed at preventing the oilfields in the area from falling into the hands of Daesh terrorists.
Damascus, however, maintains the deployment is meant to plunder the country’s natural resources. Former U.S. president Donald Trump admitted several times that American forces were in the Arab country for its oil wealth.
