Senior Qatari Diplomat Holds Talks in Tehran
TEHRAN -- Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani says killing children has become the norm for the Zionist regime, adding the practice exposes Israel’s fear of the new Palestinian generation.
“Child killing has become the norm of the Zionist regime which shows its fear of the future,” he told Qatar’s deputy foreign minister for regional affairs Muhammad bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi here late Saturday.
Killing children is condemned by any human criterion or standard, he said.
Last Friday, the occupying regime of Israel launched a devastating military onslaught against the besieged Gaza Strip, martyring dozens of civilians, including at least 17 children, and injuring hundreds more with its airstrikes that lasted for three consecutive days.
On Thursday, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights raised the alarm over the rate by which the Zionist regime has been killing Palestinian children so far this year.
“Inflicting hurt on any child during the course of conflict is deeply disturbing, and the killing and maiming of so many children this year is unconscionable,” Michelle Bachelet said.
Bagheri Kani said Israeli rulers are well aware of the potential of the emerging Palestinian generation who would pose a “strategic threat” to the occupiers.
Governments in Muslim countries, the senior Iranian diplomat said, should more than ever focus on supporting the Palestinian people in various dimensions.
Following their meeting, the Qatari foreign minister said in a tweet that the two sides also discussed developments surrounding the talks to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement.
“I thank His Excellency @Bagheri_Kani for the warm welcome and hospitality. We discussed the latest developments in the regional and international sectors, in particular the developments of the ongoing negotiations on the return of the JCPOA,” he wrote.
On-and-off negotiations have been held in the Austrian capital of Vienna since April last year to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was unilaterally abandoned by the
United States in 2018. The Iranian delegation at the talks is led by Bagheri Kani.
Last month, the negotiations were hosted in Doha in a different format, with Tehran and Washington holding indirect talks mediated by the European Union.
Tehran has urged Washington to be serious in order to finalize an agreement.
Khulaifi also met with Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian, who underlined the need to implement agreements reached between Tehran and Doha during Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s latest visit to the Persian Gulf Arab country and the Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s trip to Iran.
During their meeting, the two sides exchanged views about the expansion of bilateral relations and topics of common interests.
The Qatari diplomat stressed his country’s resolve to boost bilateral ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Raisi visited Doha in late February to attend the sixth summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in the Qatari capital, where the two neighboring countries signed 14 memoranda of understanding in the fields of aviation, trade, shipping, media, cancelation of visa requirements, electricity, standards, education and culture.
The Qatari emir also visited Tehran in May and the two sides agreed to implement joint projects and expand their economic and political ties.
