Probe: Zionist Soldier Killed Shireen Abu Akleh

WASHINGTON (Middle East Eye) – An investigation by the Washington Post into the death of Shireen Abu Akleh has concluded that a Zionist trooper likely fired the fatal shot that killed the veteran Palestinian journalist last month.
The in-depth analysis and visual investigation, published on Sunday, examined more than “five dozen videos, social media posts and photos of the event” and “conducted two physical inspections of the area and commissioned two independent acoustic analyses of the gunshots”.
The report said that while the Zionist regime’s army had not released any evidence showing the gunman, the existing footage disputes regime’s claims that there was an exchange of fire before Abu Akleh was killed.
The incident, during which Abu Akleh was killed by shots to her head, took place in the city of Jenin in the northern part of the occupied West Bank on May 11. It sent shockwaves throughout the international community and initiated numerous calls for accountability on the part of the occupying regime.
The Post’s probe found that at the time of the incident, the sniper was situated about 182 meters away from Abu Akleh—just where a Zionist convoy had been deployed that morning.
The Associated Press has also carried out a reconstruction of Abu Akleh’s killing, and reported that their findings lend “support to assertions from both Palestinian authorities and Abu Akleh’s colleagues that the bullet that cut her down came from an Israeli gun.”
More than 50 U.S. lawmakers signed a letter last month, calling on the FBI and State Department to intervene and lead a probe.
The United Nations human rights chief has called on Zionist regime authorities to open a criminal investigation into circumstances surrounding the the killing of Abu Akleh.
“Under international human rights law, Israel should investigate and ensure appropriate accountability for every case of death and serious injury inflicted by Israeli forces. The prevailing climate of impunity is fueling further violence and violations,” Michelle Bachelet said during her opening address to the Geneva-based body’s summer session on Monday.
“The now chronically high levels of killings and injuries of Palestinians, including children by Israeli forces in the occupied Palestinian territory, have continued in the first six months of 2022,” the former president of Chile noted.
