Elderly Palestinian Woman Assaulted by Zionist Troops
AL-KHALIL (Dispatches) – An
elderly Palestinian woman was assaulted and arrested by Zionist troops in the West Bank city of Al-Khalil on Saturday, according to local residents.
Zionist troops assaulted the woman near the flashpoint Ibrahimi Mosque and handcuffed her before taking her into custody, the residents said.
Israeli Haaretz newspaper said the woman, 65, was arrested for allegedly stabbing a Zionist with a knife.
There was no comment from Palestinian authorities on the incident.
Meanwhile, Zionist troops attacked and dispersed a protest held in solidarity with a Palestinian family whose house is under threat of being seized by a settler group in the occupied East Al-Quds neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah.
A police force dispersed Palestinian and Israeli activists following Friday prayers at a land plot near the house of the Salem family, who face imminent eviction on 29 December.
Earlier this week, a group of 30 settlers had fenced a plot of land near the house, confiscated it and claimed it as their own.
A member of the family, Sabreen Salem, told Middle East Eye that Zionist troops fired tear gas and stun grenades, and pushed activists who came to show solidarity with them on Friday.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has called upon the international community to intervene immediately, and to pressure the occupying regime into stopping “acts of terrorism” committed by Zionist settlers against Palestinians and their communities.
The ministry, in a statement, urged UN Secretary-General António Guterres to promptly activate the international protection system for Palestinian civilians under the occupation.
It said it is gravely concerned about the rise in systematic attacks by Zionist settlers on Palestinians, especially in the northern West Bank villages of Qaryout and Burqa as well as in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied East Al-Quds, which have left dozens of people injured.
The ministry held the regime of extremist Zionist prime minister Naftali Bennett fully and directly responsible for settler violence and terror, and warned against the dangerous repercussions of their acts on the status of the region.
Additionally, the Palestinian presidency called on the international community to swiftly put an end to Zionist settlers’ terrorism against the defenseless Palestinians.
It stressed that regime authorities are encouraging and protecting settler violence, which is soaring on a daily basis.
It said stability will not prevail as long as Palestinians do not enjoy calm, adding the current situation will keep the Middle East region in a cycle of violence.
