Bomb Attack Targets Power Line in Iraq’s Nineveh

BAGHDAD (Dispatches) – A bomb attack targeted a power transmission tower in Iraq’s northern Nineveh province on Sunday, according to the country’s electricity ministry.
A ministry statement said that the attack had disrupted electricity supply in the province.
According to the ministry, 16 power lines came under attacks in the provinces of Nineveh, Kirkuk and Salahuddin in recent weeks.
Iraqi authorities blame the attacks on the Daesh terrorist group.
Meanwhile, two people were killed and two others wounded in three attacks by Daesh terrorists on security forces in Salahudin province north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, a provincial security source said Sunday.
In one of the attacks, the terrorists struck an Iraqi army base in Nibai area in the southern part of Salahudin, Colonel Mohammed al-Bazi told Xinhua.
The attack sparked a fierce clash between the two sides, leaving a soldier killed and another wounded, al-Bazi said.
In another development in the country, security forces on Saturday launched an operation to hunt down Daesh terrorists in eastern province of Diyala, a provincial police source said.
Based on intelligence reports, a joint force from the provincial police and tribal fighters launched the operation in areas north of the town of al-Muqdadiya, some 100 kilometers northeast of the capital Baghdad, Nihad al-Mahdawi, head of Diyala police media office, told Xinhua.
The operation aimed to clear rural areas in the north of Maqdadiyah from Daesh terrorists and destroy their hideouts, al-Mahdawi said.
