Zarif: Iranian, Syrian Nations Victims of U.S. Medical Terrorism
TEHRAN (Dispatches) - Iran’s Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif, has held talks with his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad.
In this meeting, Foreign Minister Zarif expressed pleasure with his trip to Syria ahead of the country’s presidential elections, especially at a time when the Zionist regime’s vulnerability to the Palestinian people’s righteous resistance has become clear.
Zarif further reviewed Iran-Syria relations in various political and economic fields, and expressed Tehran’s support for the Syrian nation and government against the inauspicious phenomena of extremism and terrorism.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also expressed pleasure with the Syrian government’s accomplishments in resisting the U.S.’ economic terrorism and its anti-Syria sanctions, and said, "Unfortunately this terrorism has spread to the medical sphere today, and is depriving the Iranian and Syrian people of COVID-19 vaccine.”
Cooperation between Tehran and Damascus in the economic and cultural fields, and the opening of Iran’s consulate-general in Syria’s Aleppo and then in Latakia given the Syrian president’s approval were among other topics raised by the Iranian top diplomat in this meeting.
Foreign Minister Mekdad, in turn, appreciated Iran’s support for the people and government of Syria, and underlined the necessity of the two countries’ cooperation at international and regional organizations as well as reinforcing communications and cooperation among the two countries’ representatives.
Zarid also in the first leg of his tour of several European countries, held talks with Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation Arancha González Laya.
In the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest status of Tehran-Madrid relations in various political and economic fields.
Foreign Minister Zarif reviewed bilateral relations in different spheres, and said the potential for Iran-Spain economic cooperation is beyond the current level.
He then underlined the necessity of exploring avenues for promoting collaborations in different economic areas by removing some of the existing barriers.
Zarif also highlighted the significance of developing cooperation in the field of small and medium-sized enterprises as well as the tourism industry and its infrastructure for activation of Iran-Spain economic relations.
The Iranian Foreign Minister elaborated on Tehran’s viewpoints regarding the regional issues, especially the need for intra-regional interaction among countries and other important issues of the region including Yemen, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
