Pakistan, Iran Discuss Security Cooperation

ISLAMABAD (Dispatches) – Iran’s military Chief of Staff Major General Muhammad Baqeri said here Monday that the United States along with some other countries is trying to create insecurity in the region.
Baqeri said that Iran is committed for better relations between Iran and Pakistan, adding cooperation between Iran and Pakistan is being broadened to bring peace and security in the region, IRNA news agency reported.
The Iranian commander added that the current task of Iran and Pakistan is to enhance bilateral friendship and coordinate with each other in order to achieve peace and security in the region.
Baqeri described Pakistan as one of the most important neighbors of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and said that the country with more than 200 million people is interested in having strong ties with Iran.
"Iran also attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan,” he added.
Baqeri visited Islamabad at the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart Qamar Javed Bajwa who traveled to Iran last November.
Bilateral ties, defense cooperation, border management, war against terrorism, regional and international developments came under discussions during his meetings with Pakistani civil and military officials.
Baqeri also called on Pakistani Minister for Foreign Affairs Abdullah Hussain Haroon to discuss bilateral ties, international and regional developments.
Heading a high-level delegation, Baqeri arrived here Sunday on a three-day official visit for talks with the country’s officials.
