Rare Safavid Era Game Cards on View at Abbasi Museum
TEHRAN (IFILM) -- The Reza Abbasi Museum in north-central Tehran is currently exhibiting a collection of seldom seen game cards, dating back to the Safavid era.
The game cards, which are made of ivory and precious stones, are being kept at the treasure trove of the Reza Abbasi Museum.
The cards are designed by miniature paintings of kings, viziers, and other courtiers and individuals as well as objects such as crowns and swords. The cards were played in royal courts of Safavid monarchs, the greatest dynasty to emerge from Iran in the Islamic period.
During the Safavid period, a significant development of Islamic art was flourished in Iran that still can be traced in the architectural design of mosques, mausoleums, palace complexes and sites of veneration and pilgrimage.
The exhibition, which will run through February 19, 2022, is organized to mark the 43rd anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, which is known as the Ten-Day Fajr celebrations.
