CANBERRA (Reuters) - A night curfew will be re-imposed in the Solomon Islands capital Honiara after witnesses said Australian police began taking control of hotspots following three days of violent protests in the South Pacific island nation. The Ministry of Health said in a statement that city clinics were closed and urged “all Honiara residents involved in arson, rioting, looting to please stop immediately” after its ambulances were stoned. WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A polyp removed during President Joe Biden’s colonoscopy last week “is a benign, slow-growing, but thought to be precancerous lesion” for which no more action is required at this time, the White House physician said in a letter released. The polyp was identified as a “tubular adenoma,” which is similar to one Biden had removed in 2008, Dr Kevin O’Connor said in the letter, which is dated Tuesday.

LONDON (Al-Jazeera) - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has made a surprise appearance in Havana at the inauguration of the Fidel Castro Ruz centre, which preserves the late president’s writings, five years after his death. Maduro, who had not traveled to Cuba since December 2019, accompanied his Cuban counterpart Miguel Diaz-Canel at the ceremony, which was broadcast by state television. With them was Castro’s brother and former president Raul Castro. The Fidel Castro Ruz centre in the capital Havana is the first and only Cuban building to carry his name.

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (Dispatches) - Security services in Kyrgyzstan say they have detained 15 “active members” of a coup plot involving lawmakers and former officials ahead of a parliamentary vote at the weekend. The detained were part of a plan to get “1,000 aggressive young people” to protest against the results of the vote, the state committee for national security said in a statement on Friday.
