Jordan Bans Teachers’ Syndicate Press Conference
AMMAN (MEMO) – The governor of the Jordanian capital Amman, Yasser al-Adwan, prevented the Teachers’ Syndicate from holding a press conference, Arabi21 news site reported. The site quoted Syndicate member Kifah Abu Farhan as saying that the Professional Syndicates Complex informed the body of al-Adwan’s decision, explaining that the conference was devoted to discussing the issues of provisional teachers, early retirement, arbitrary dismissal and penalties issued against activists. The head of the Syndicate’s legal committee, Basil Al-Hroub, denounced the decision as an “infringement of public liberties, unions and freedom of expression”.
