Zionist PM Visits Egypt
CAIRO (Dispatches) – Zionist prime minister Naftali Bennett met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Monday for talks on Zionist-Palestinian tensions, Egypt’s presidency said, in the first trip by a Zionist official to Egypt for a decade.
Bennett, who took office in June, was invited to visit by Sisi last month. The two are holding talks in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on the southern tip of Egypt’s Sinai peninsula.
The discussions were expected to address “ways and efforts to revive the (so-called) peace process” between the Zionist regime and the Palestinians, Egypt’s presidency said in a statement, as well as bilateral and regional matters.
Talks between the Zionist regime and the Palestinians collapsed in 2014 and analysts say there is little prospect of reviving them. Bennett fiercely opposes Palestinian statehood.
One focus of talks will be the situation in the Gaza Strip, where Egypt helped broker a ceasefire after 11 days of Zionist aggression on Gaza in May, diplomatic and security sources said.
There have been several demonstrations in recent weeks to protest against the occupying regime’s almost 15-year-long blockade of Gaza.
