IRGC Pummels Terrorist Positions in Iraqi Kurdistan

TEHRAN -- The Islamic
Revolution Guards (IRGC) on Thursday used artillery and drones to strike terrorists based in neighboring Iraq’s northern Kurdistan region, Iranian news agencies reported.
“In this operation, the headquarters of those conspiring against Iran’s national security was destroyed,” the IRGC said.
There are frequent clashes in the remote and mountainous border region between Iranian security forces and foreign-backed terrorist groups, such as PJAK linked to PKK militants in Turkey and the PDKI.
On Monday, Brigadier General Muhammad Pakpour, the head of the IRGC’s ground forces, said Iran was preparing to retaliate against the terrorists based across the border and urged civilians there to “stay away from the terrorists’ headquarters in order to avoid harm”.
Gen. Pakpour warned the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) not to allow terrorist groups to use its territory to threaten the Islamic Republic.
Terrorist groups, he said, use Iraq’s northern territory as a base to sow insecurity in Iran’s border regions, warning that “continuation of this situation is not tolerable for us and we will give the necessary response to terrorists.”
