Iran Holds Int’l Conference of Shams, Rumi
TEHRAN (IBNA) -- Executive Director of the 7th Scientific International Conference of Shams and Mowlana (Rumi) will be held in the city of Khoy, West Azerbaijan Iranian Province on September 29.
Reza Ja’farpour said that the event is held both with physical presence (with adherence to COVID-19 protocols) and as a webinar on the occasion of the National Iranian day of honoring Shams and Mowlana. Several scholars from Spain, the USA, Bangladesh, Lebanon, French and Turkey will attend the event and 62 Iranian and foreign articles have been submitted to the conference.
The 7th Scientific International Conference of Shams and Mowlana (Rumi) has been organized in cooperation with Allameh Tabatabai University in Tehran, Institute for Humanities and Cultural Studies and Iranian Institute of Philosophy.
Ja’farpour further said that the 4th National Festival of Shams and Mowlana is also scheduled for November and will be held in three sections of music, painting and storytelling.
Shams-e Tabrizi (1185–1248) was the spiritual instructor of Mowlana Jalal al-Din Balkhi (Rumi) and is referenced with great reverence in Rumi’s poetic collection, in particular ‘Diwan-e Shams-e Tabrizi’ (‘The Works of Shams of Tabriz’). Tradition holds that Shams taught Rumi in seclusion in Konya for a period of forty days, before fleeing for Damascus. The tomb of Shams was recently nominated to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
