Lebanon PM-Designate Denies Plans to Travel to Arab Country

BEIRUT (MEMO) – Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati denied media reports claiming that he intends to travel to an Arab country to explore prospects for the upcoming stage.
“Prime Minister-designate, Najib Mikati, denies recently circulating news about his intention to travel to one of the Arab countries to explore the prospects for the upcoming stage, following which he will be taking his final decision,” Mikati’s press office said in a statement Monday.
“The PM-designate affirms that such news is totally groundless and that he is staying in Lebanon and continues his efforts to form a government,” the statement added.
On 26 July, Mikati was assigned to form the new government after receiving 72 votes during parliamentary consultations conducted by President Michel Aoun.
However, since his assignment, consultations between Mikati and Aoun have yielded no results and a new cabinet has not been announced.
Lebanese politicians have failed to agree on the government.
