TEHRAN – The Director-General of Sistan and Baluchestan Ports and Maritime Department General Behrouz Aghaei has said that Iran resumed transit of goods from Chabahar Port to Afghanistan.
“Up 100 to 200 trucks commute between Iran and Afghanistan daily”, Aghaei said.
Referring to the several-day suspension of trade with Afghanistan through the port of Chabahar due to recent events in the country, the official added, “Due to the recent events in Afghanistan, the Milak border terminal was closed on August 5 and was reopened to passengers on 10 August.”
“Milak border was reopened for transit of goods on August 15,” he added.
Milak border is in Sistan and Baluchestan province and was closed for a period due to the spread of insecurities in the vicinity of the border.
Presently, Dogharoon Border in Khorasan Razavi province and Mahirud Border in South Khorasan province are also open for doing trade and business activities.
Shalamcheh Trade Border Reopened

Head of Transit and Transportation Department of Shalamcheh Border Crossing Seyyed Hadi Edrispour said that the border was reopened after holidays on 9th and 10th days of mourning month of Muharram.
Edrispour added that trade ties between the two countries of Iran and Iraq has been resumed.
He put the daily number of trucks carrying exports goods and commodities via Shalamcheh Trade Border at between 60 and 80.
Presently, traders and businesspersons of the two countries of Iran and Iraq are busy active at Shalamcheh Border, he said and added that construction materials, clinker, summer crops, foodstuff, chemicals, minerals and steel products constitute Iraq’s major imported goods from Iran.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Edrispour pointed to the spread of coronavirus, COVID-19, pandemic and stated that Shalamcheh Border is closed for transiting passengers by both countries of Iran and Iraq in a way that transit of pilgrims bound for holy sites is still prohibited.
Shalamcheh International Border is located at 15th km west of Khorramshahr and 20 km away from Iraq’s Basra.
