‘Rubaiyat of Khayyam’ Available in Arabic
TEHRAN (IBNA)-- An outstanding work of Persian literature, ‘Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam’ has been displayed in Cairo International Book Fair in a pocket-sized version and is available to Arab readers.
This version was rendered by Iraqi translator and poet Jamil Sedghi Al-Zahavi (1863-1936) known as “Iraq’s poet” who translated the work both in poetry and prose in an accessible language to enable even ordinary readers to connect to the work.
According to some sources, this translation has been regarded as the closest Arabic translation to the spirit of the original poems. This version of ‘Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam’ which is a part of the Arabic Heritage Library has been released by Dar al- Karameh Publishing in Cairo is also available in Egyptian bookstores.
The largest and oldest book fair in the Arab world, Cairo International Book Fair is organized by the General Egyptian Book Organization. The Fair is considered the most important event in the Arabic publishing world
This year’s edition which kicked of on June 30, features 1,218 publishers from different countries, mostly Arabs. Additionally, 25 countries are participating in this year’s book fair including Palestine, Eritrea, Japan, Kuwait, the United States, Iraq, Russia, Spain, among other countries.
