French Swiatek Reaches Last 16 at Wimbledon

LONDON (Xinhua) -- Last year’s French Open champion Iga Swiatek promptly advanced into the women’s single’s last 16 at the Wimbledon Championships by beating Irina-Camelia Begu in straight sets on Friday.
Swiatek, 20, played aggressively on court, needing only 55 minutes to beat her Romanian opponent 6-1, 6-0.
On route to the last 16 round for the first time at Wimbledon, the Polish 7th seed also knocked out Russian veteran Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 6-3 in the second round.
As the 2018 junior champion at the grass-court Grand Slam, Swiatek said “it would be great to win the junior title and then the women’s title.”
“But I’m not really thinking about it, because I don’t want to put any expectation on myself,” said the youngest in the top 10 of the women’s singles world ranking. “I’m just playing step by step, match by match, and not really focusing on what’s gonna happen. I think it’s the good attitude towards the whole tournament.”
Swiatek will wait for the winner between former Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza of Spain and Tunisian number 21 seed Ons Jabeur.
