Ministry: U.S., UK Spin Goals of Vienna Talks

TEHRAN (Dispatches) -- Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Thursday the U.S. and Britain spin the goals of the ongoing Vienna talks in order to appease the Zionist regime.
“To appease the sworn enemy of JCPOA, UK/U.S. FMs spin goals of #ViennaTalks. Disappointing!” ministry spokesman Khatibzadeh tweeted, referring to the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran by its official acronym.
The Joint Comprehensive Action (JCPOA) was signed in July 2015 between Iran and six world powers, including the U.S., Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China. The former Trump administration, however, abandoned it in May 2018 in a move strongly supported by the Zionist regime.
The Vienna talks, which began in early April, are aimed at bringing the U.S. back to the deal and remove all American sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic under Trump.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, however, underlined the current administration’s aversion to the move on Thursday, saying her country would “carefully review” the sanctions if the Vienna talks succeeded.
Iranian negotiators have been pressing for a full removal of the sanctions, but Yellen said the U.S. would decide what sanctions it deemed appropriate to lift.
“So we will carefully review what sanctions relief would be appropriate if Iran takes the appropriate steps,” she said.
Yellen made the remarks while clarifying U.S. position on Iran’s support for Palestinians resisting the Israeli occupation nearly a week after a war between the Zionist regime and Palestinian resistance groups ended in a ceasefire.
Khatibzadeh on Thursday reminded the parties to the JCPOA that the “brutal Israeli regime” has done its utmost to torpedo the deal.
“Instead of eroding your credibility, focus on reviving the original deal—the ONLY solution on the table,” he said.
Zionist PM Benjamin Netanyahu said in a joint press event with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday that Washington should avoid rejoining the JCPOA.
Blinken said the U.S. was “consulting closely with Israel as we did today on the ongoing negotiations in Vienna around a potential return to the Iran nuclear agreement.”
British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab on Tuesday visited Occupied Palestine, where he talked of the importance of a “stronger nuclear deal” with Iran, which has been time and again rejected by Tehran.
