TEHRAN (Dispatches) - Persepolis have claimed the bragging rights of the Tehran derby and moved to the top of the Persian Gulf Pro-league, after beating arch-rivals Esteghlal 1-nil.
Issa Alekasir latched onto a rebound and tapped-in the winner just a few minutes before the hour-mark. Persepolis then held-on to secure a crucial victory that put them level on 45 points with Sepahan, but they lead the standings, courtesy of a superior goal-difference. Meanwhile, the defeat sent Esteghlal down from 3rd to 5th place with 8 weeks remaining of the Persian League.
