Yemen: Another ‘Accurate Hit’ Against Saudi Airbase
SANA’A (Dispatches) – Yemeni forces have announced that they hit the King Khalid Air Base in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern border city of Khamis Mushait with a bomb-laden drone before dawn on Sunday.
"The hit was accurate,” Yemeni Armed Forces’ Spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said in a statement aired by the group’s al-Masirah TV.
He said the retaliatory operation used one of the air force’s Qasef-K2 UAVs.
Saree called the reprisal, Yemen’s legitimate response to a simultaneous war and siege by a Saudi-led military coalition.
Meanwhile, a high-ranking commander of the militants who fight for the Saudi Arabia-led coalition in Yemen and a commander of the Daesh terrorist group were killed in clashes with Yemen’s defense forces in the west-central Yemeni province of Ma’rib.
The commander was identified as Saleh Dirham Ramadi of Brigade 129 of the militant divisions that have been aiding the coalition on the ground since it began its war on Yemen in March 2015, the Yemen News website reported on Saturday.
Tens of thousands of Yemenis have died as a result of the war and blockade.
The website also named the Daesh member as Saif San’ani, saying he used to act as the deputy of the terror group’s senior official for espionage activities in Yemen.
Daesh and its fellow terror group, al-Qaeda, have been trying to establish sweeping control over Ma’rib’s Province under widely-reported support from the Saudi-led coalition.
In another development, 11 Yemeni prisoners belonging to the country’s army and Popular Committees were reportedly released on Saturday during prisoner swap process.
Abdul Qader al Murtaza, chairman of the Yemeni National Salvation Government’s Committee for Prisoner Affairs, announced the development in a tweet.
The Yemenis were freed during two prisoner exchange procedures that went underway in the country’s western coast and the northwestern al-Jawf Province.
Such prisoner swap processes have been underway for some time between the Sana’a government and Yemen’s former Riyadh-friendly officials.
