Iraqi Forces Discover Daesh Arms Depot North of Baghdad

BAGHDAD (Dispatches) – The Iraqi security forces have discovered a large ammunition depot belonging to the Daesh terrorist group north of Baghdad, the country’s defense ministry said on Sunday.
"The operations command of the Salahuddin province has discovered an arms depot left by Daesh terrorists,” the ministry said in a statement.
According to the Iraqi military, the security forces discovered and destroyed 25 mortars of various calibers, 41 shells and explosives.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi security forces on Saturday killed five Daesh terrorists and arrested a total of nine others in the country, the Iraqi military said.
A statement by the media office of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) said that a force of the Hashd al-Sha’abi poular forces foiled an attack by Daesh terrorists in the Jurf al-Naser area in the province of Babil in the south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
The clash resulted in the killing of five Daesh terrorists, the statement said without giving further details.
Separately, the Iraqi forces arrested five members of the terrorist group in the Tarmiyah area, some 30 km north of Baghdad, as well as arresting four others in Iraq’s western province of Anbar and the northern province of Kirkuk, according to the statement.
The situation in Iraq has been improving since Iraqi security forces, with the help of Iran and Russia, fully defeated the Daesh across the country late in 2017.
However, Daesh remnants have since melted in deserts and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians.
