Muslims Honor Jesus Christ No Less Than Christians
TEHRAN (Dispatches) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei offered congratulations on the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ.
"The honor Muslims attribute to Jesus Christ is no less than the position and merit which Christian believers regard for him,” a series of tweets on the Leader’s official page said.
"Today, many who claim to follow Jesus Christ take a different path than his. The guidance of Jesus the son of Mary (Peace be upon our prophet and her) is worshiping God and confronting pharaohs and tyrants,” one tweet said.
President Hassan Rouhani sent a letter of congratulation to Pope Francis on the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ.
Rouhani described Jesus Christ as "the prophet of peace and kindness and a harbinger of freedom”.
He expressed hope that the prophet’s true followers as well as all other adherents to divine religions would act to contribute to the establishment of peace and justice worldwide.
The Iranian president also wished the pontiff well-being and success in his duties, and prosperity for all followers of divine religions.
Iranian Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif also congratulated Christians all throughout the world on Christmas and the onset of the new Gregorian calendar year.
In a tweet, Zarif expressed his felicitations over the auspicious birth anniversary of the prophet of friendship and brotherhood, Jesus Christ, describing Christmas as a "wondrous occasion,” and wishing a "joyous, peaceful holiday season” for all Christians.
"Wishing my Christian compatriots, and all across our globe who are observing, a very Happy Christmas and a joyous, peaceful holiday season. The birth of Jesus Christ, prophet in Islam, is a wondrous occasion to celebrate,” the top Iranian diplomat wrote.
There are at least 600 churches and over 300,000 Christians in Iran, a predominantly Muslim country.
