TEHRAN (Dispatches) – Iran’s national volleyball team defeated Germany 3-0 (30-28, 29-27, 25-20) in Pool 1 of men’s 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League on Sunday in China’s Jiangmen.
This is the third consecutive victory for Iran in the first week of the event. Earlier, the team had managed to defeat Italy (3-1) and China (3-0).
Team Melli beat China (25-22, 25-18, 25-21).
Amir Ghafour led Iran with 19 points and Chinese Zhejia Zhang scored 8 points.
Iran, who had defeated Italy 3-1 in its first match.
Earlier on the day, Italy had defeated Germany 3-0.
Currently, Iran stands top of the men’s VNL ranking with nine points while Argentina, France, and Brazil stand next.
The 2019 FIVB Volleyball Men's Nations League is the second edition of the FIVB Volleyball Men's Nations League, an annual international men's volleyball tournament contested by 16 national teams.
The competition will be held between May and July 2019 and the final round will take place in the Credit Union 1 Arena, Chicago, United States.
This is the first edition of the World League or the Nations League to have the Final Round hosted in North America.
In week 2 of the event, the team will make a trip to Tokyo to lock horns with Brazil, Japan, and Argentina in Pool 7.
