Leader: Security Key to Economic Boom
TEHRAN (Dispatches) -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Sunday called on Iran’s police forces to enhance their capabilities and take serious action against smugglers and those upsetting security of the cyberspace.
The Leader told a group of police commander that guaranteeing security in the society is necessary for the realization of economic prosperity.
Ayatollah Khamenei touched on the new Iranian year having been designated as the year of production boom, saying law enforcement plays an important role in realizing the goal.
"The Law Enforcement Force must launch a serious fight against smuggling and also those who make cyberspace insecure,” the Leader stated. "Smuggling is an impediment to realizing production boom,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.
The Leader said smuggling has turned into a "two-way” malady, where some goods are trafficked into the country while some other commodities needed in the country, including agricultural products, are taken out.
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that profit is not the only driving force behind the illegal trafficking of products, citing possible conspiracies.
"It is not only a quest for profit that motivates some of these smugglings. Rather, there is a plot, a plan with evil intentions involved in some cases and police must confront them with utter vigilance.”
Ayatollah Khamenei also underlined the need to secure cyberspace. "Today, cyberspace has spread to people’s life, where besides having benefits, it also poses major risks.”
An insecure cyberspace, the Leader, is detrimental to people, urging police to ensure security of cyberspace. Ayatollah Khamenei particularly stressed the need to prevent the sale of firearms on cyberspace.
"Selling arms is free in some countries, including the United States, in order to meet the interests of the arms manufacturing mafia, which has caused problems for people in those countries. In our country, however, no such problem exists and selling arms is forbidden and must be prevented,” the Leader said.
The Leader cited a recent tragedy in which a cleric was murdered by a known thug in the western city of Hamadan.
"The person who murdered a clergy in Hamadan yesterday had previously published his photos with four different handguns and rifles. Confronting such matters falls under the responsibility of police forces.”
