Expediency Council Postpones Palermo Debate
TEHRAN (Dispatches) – Members of the Expediency Council on Saturday did not reach a consensus on a government bill to join the UN Convention on Transnational Crime.
This is the second time that the council holds up a vote on the divisive issue in the face of a February deadline set by the anti-money laundering body, the Financial Action Task Force, for Iran to pass the law which many critics warn could compromise Iran’s security.
