15 Militants, 1 Soldier Killed in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (AP) – At least 15 pro-Taliban militants and one soldier have been killed in Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal area, the country’s army says.
On Saturday, Pakistan’s Inter Services Public Relations said that army helicopters had killed 12 militants in North Waziristan’s Ghulam Ali area.
Army sources also said that three militant hideouts and four explosive-laden vehicles had been destroyed in the airstrikes.
In the town of Boya, three militants and one soldier were also killed in clashes.
This comes just days after the Pakistani army carried out a number of airstrikes in the town of Datta Khel, near the border with Afghanistan, killing some 40 militants. They also managed to destroy ammunition depots belonging to the militants.
The Pakistani army says it has killed over 1,000 militants since it started its clean-up operation along its border with Afghanistan in June.
North Waziristan’s tribal region has long been home to pro-Taliban militants. The militant groups in Pakistan have carried out numerous attacks against Pakistani security forces and civilians.
Many Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001, when the Pakistani government entered an alliance with Washington in its so-called war on terror.
