Ayatollah Larijani:
Nation Will Thwart U.S., British Plots
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani said he is confident Iranians would thwart U.S. and British plots to undermine the upcoming elections slated for Friday.
Addressing a gathering of Iranian veterans and clerics, Ayatollah Amoli Larijani cautioned about recent attempts by the U.S. and Britain to influence the outcome of the upcoming elections.
"Unfortunately, the enemies of the Islamic establishment have always tried to harm the Islamic Revolution over the past 37 years since its victory in February 1979,” he said.
However, "our people are vigilant, alive and wise and are able to recognize foreign attempts to influence the elections,” he added.
Ayatollah Larijani further said Iranians will never allow the U.S. and Britain to decide for them. "The people will deal a strong blow to the enemies with their high turnout.”
On Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hussein Jabari Ansari said Iran is independent and does not need any advice from foreign sides on the upcoming parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) recently encouraged Iranians not to vote for certain candidates in the Assembly of Experts elections.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran’s position (on BBC’s move) is clear. An important achievement of Iran’s Islamic Revolution is independence and freedom, and the vigilant nation of Iran does not need the advice of any foreign player,” Ansari said.
