Yemen Retaliates After Saudi Strike Kills 22 in Sana’a Village
SANA’A -- Yemen’s forces on Saturday carried out retaliatory strikes against Saudi targets, including a cruise missile and drone launched at capital Riyadh after a Saudi airstrike on a residential village east of Sana’a killed at least 22 people and wounded 30, most of them women and children.
Sana’a-based Al-Masirah television reported that Saudi warplanes struck Ash Sharyah village in the Bani Hushaysh district, destroying several residential houses. The death toll rose sharply as rescue teams recovered bodies from the rubble throughout the day. The channel reported that further airstrikes targeted rescue workers and roads leading to the village, wounding 20 civil defense personnel.
The political bureau of Ansarullah issued a statement condemning the attack as part of Saudi Arabia’s long record of crimes against the Yemeni people. It said the targeting of homes and residential areas and the spilling of civilian blood constitute a clear violation of religious, humanitarian and moral values.
The bureau warned that the blood of Yemenis is not permissible for Saudi Arabia and that the country’s actions against the Yemeni people will not go unanswered or unpunished.
The statement also pointed to the role of the United States and Israel in the military aggression against Yemen, saying Saudi Arabia has acted since the start of the campaign under their direction and participation in pursuit of Zionist plans.
It called on the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to assume their responsibilities and pressure Saudi Arabia to stop attacks against the Yemeni people.
The strike came a day after an attack on a market in the southern Ta’izz governorate martyred dozens.
