Abadan Mourns Captain Martyred in U.S. Maritime Terrorism
TEHRAN -- Mourners in the southwestern city of Abadan gathered on Sunday evening for a farewell ceremony for Captain Nasser Ebrahimi-Nejadan, a ship captain martyred in a U.S. attack on a vessel in the free waters of the Persian Gulf, in the 246th consecutive nightly demonstration by residents of the city.
The ceremony was held at the nightly gathering point in Shahid Montazeri Park, where a large crowd of residents bade farewell to the body of the slain captain.
Participants chanted slogans declaring their abhorrence and anger at American crimes and terrorist actions against the Iranian nation.
They condemned the hostile measures and crimes of the United States and expressed sympathy with the families of those martyred, emphasizing their determination to continue on the path of the martyrs.
Attendees raised the slogans "Death to America," "Death to Israel," and "The blood in our veins is a gift to our Leader". The report said the crowd also demonstrated national solidarity and unity against threats and conspiracies by enemies.
Captain Ebrahimi-Nejadan was martyred on Friday, October 30, when a U.S. attack struck a vessel in the free waters of the Persian Gulf and shrapnel hit him.
The body will be transferred to Hendijan after the farewell ceremony and buried there on Monday.
The ceremony was the latest in a series of nightly gatherings in Abadan that have taken place for 246 consecutive nights. The gatherings began during the earlier terrorist wars of aggression against Iran and have continued through the current period, functioning as a venue for public expressions of support for the armed forces and condemnation of the United States and Israel.
The martyrdom of Captain Ebrahimi-Nejadan is the latest in a series of maritime U.S. aggression in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. On October 31, two fishing boats were targeted near Qeshm Island, with two fishermen initially missing before being found.
According to IRNA, the two boats were attacked at about 11:30 a.m. local time, 18 nautical miles from Messen village in Qeshm County, with each boat carrying two crew members.
Two fishermen were brought to Qeshm, one injured and taken to hospital, while the other two were initially reported missing.
Ali Eslami Ramchahi, head of Qeshm's fishing community, later said the missing men—a father and son—had been found, with one suffering injuries to both legs and the other rescued from the sea by passing vessels
According to Fars news agency, reported that two Iranian fishermen were injured in the drone attack and that the boats belonged to island locals.
In September, a projectile struck a commercial container ship near Hengam Island, killing one crew member and injuring four, including two Pakistani nationals.
Qeshm Governor Hossein Amir-Teymouri said the vessel was hit at around 5 a.m. local time in the area of Hengam Island and the Shib Deraz coast, and described the attack as the work of the "American-Zionist enemy".
Iran has submitted a dossier to the UN's International Maritime Organization documenting attacks on its civilian ports, rescue vessels, and navigation infrastructure, and warning that the destruction threatens the safety of international shipping through the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Sea of Oman.
The submission was circulated among IMO member states under Agenda Item 11, "Protection of Vital Shipping Lanes," for review at the organization's 138th Council session in London from November 2 to 6.
