‘In Search of Iran’ Exhibition Opens at Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art
TEHRAN – The exhibition In Search of Iran, featuring more than 100 works from the collection of the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, opened here Saturday, bringing together works by prominent Iranian artists to explore the country’s cultural identity and artistic heritage.
Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyed Abbas Salehi attended the opening ceremony at the museum. Public visits began on Sunday, November 1, and the exhibition will remain on view until mid-December.
Organized around the question of how Iran has been experienced and represented through art, the exhibition brings together works from different generations and artistic backgrounds. Rather than proposing a single definition of Iranian identity, it examines the multiple ways artists have interpreted the country through personal memories, everyday experiences, migration and a sense of belonging.
According to the museum’s curatorial statement, the exhibition explores how Iran’s presence in art extends beyond recognizable national symbols, historical imagery and familiar landscapes.
More than 100 works are presented across seven thematic sections, each organized around a question. Instead of following a chronological account of modern Iranian art, the exhibition establishes visual and conceptual connections between artworks, encouraging visitors to consider different interpretations of national and cultural identity.
