Jamil Wins Colombian Festival Honor, The Hole Selected in U.S.

TEHRAN -- Two Iranian short films have secured international festival recognition, with Nasim Asadpour’s Jamil receiving an honorary diploma at Colombia’s Pasto International Film Festival (FICPA), and Muhammadreza Hassani Ranjbar’s The Hole earning a place in the lineup of the Colony Short Film Festival in the United States.
Jamil, written, produced and directed by Asadpour, received a special commendation, equivalent to second place, in the international short film category titled “Sun of the Pastos/Echoes of the World” at the 22nd edition of FICPA.
Held in Pasto, in southwestern Colombia, FICPA took place Oct. 13–17, 2026, according to the festival’s official program. The event showcases Colombian and international cinema and is among the established film festivals in the country’s southwestern region.
The hybrid live-action and animation short addresses the plight of Iranian and Palestinian children. It was produced with the support of the International Committee for Supporting the Islamic Revolution of the Palestinian People, affiliated with Iran’s presidential administration. International distribution is handled by Iran Film Portal.
The film previously reached the final selection of Spain’s SOCINE, officially known as the UEMC International University Social Film Festival. Its second international festival appearance adds to the film’s growing presence on the international circuit. <
Meanwhile, The Hole, directed by Hassani Ranjbar and written by Reza Fahimi, has been selected for the 14th Colony Short Film Festival, marking its first international appearance. The film draws inspiration from the short story “Grandpa Ali’s House” by Zahra Gharib Hosseini and is produced by Fahimi and Hassani Ranjbar.
The festival is scheduled for Nov. 14, 2026, in Marietta, Ohio. The event focuses on independent short films and offers screenings alongside opportunities for filmmakers and audiences to connect.
According to the film’s synopsis, The Hole follows a young girl who, after her grandmother’s death and funeral, attempts to bring her back to life.
The film was produced at the Iranian Young Cinema Society’s Rafsanjan office.
