Official: Iran-Iraq Trade Continues Uninterrupted

TEHRAN - The Chairman of the Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce on Sunday hailed the trade exchanges, and the outlook for economic relations between the two countries.
Outlining the latest status of the borders between the two nations, Yahya Al-Eshaq  said with the exception of one border crossing that has been temporarily closed, all other borders remain operational. Negotiations are currently underway to lift restrictions and restore normal conditions, he added.
Al-Eshaq discussed the status of the shared borders, the trajectory of trade exchanges, and the outlook for economic relations between the two countries. He stated that the relationship between Iran and Iraq is strategic in nature. While specific, short-term events or developments may—depending on the time and context—influence the volume or flow of these interactions, the core relationship rests on a solid foundation. Consequently, the current situation does not suggest that any fundamental problems will arise within the overall bilateral relationship.
He added that the domestic conditions in both countries, their mutual economic needs, and the plans and decisions of officials from both Iran and Iraq all underscore the continued commitment to bilateral ties. Therefore, while fluctuations in the patterns of cooperation and trade may occur from time to time, such changes should be viewed as responses to temporary circumstances rather than as an indication that the core strategic relationship has been compromised.
