Ministers Call for Expanded Iran-Uzbekistan Transport Cooperation
TEHRAN – Iranian Roads and Urban Development minister Farzaneh Sadeq and Uzbekistan’s transport and communications minister called for stronger cooperation in road, rail and transit sectors, emphasizing the need to follow up on bilateral agreements and expand collaboration.
Sadeq and Ilhom Mahkamov discussed existing challenges in road and rail transportation on the sidelines of the ECO Transport Ministers Meeting in Kazakhstan on Friday.
The Iranian minister pointed to the growing movement of transport fleets between the two countries, saying Iran-Uzbekistan cooperation, particularly in road and rail transportation, has expanded significantly in recent years.
For his part, Mahkamov underscored the importance of comprehensive transport cooperation with Iran and expressed Uzbekistan’s readiness to broaden bilateral engagement and joint cooperation.
The two sides also emphasized a proposal for a visit to Iran’s port infrastructure to familiarize Uzbek officials with the country’s port capacities and assess its transit capabilities.
