Israel Expands Gaza Occupation on Ceasefire Anniversary, Killing Four

GAZA (Dispatches) -- Israeli forces pushed deeper into eastern Gaza City on Monday, expanding their control beyond ceasefire lines and killing at least four Palestinians in strikes and gunfire, medical officials said, as the U.S.-brokered truce marked its first anniversary with no sign of abating violence.
The deaths brought the toll since the ceasefire took effect on Oct. 11, 2025, to 1,488 Palestinians killed and 5,281 wounded, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The ministry said Israeli forces have committed 5,474 violations of the agreement.
In the southern city of Rafah, an Israeli drone struck a group of Palestinians near Muawiya Mosque in the Al-Mawasi area, killing two and critically wounding three, medical sources said.
A separate drone attack on a displacement tent in Khan Younis killed three people, including a child, who were charging mobile phones, according to hospital officials.
In northern Gaza, a Palestinian died of wounds sustained in an earlier drone strike, and a child was killed by Israeli gunfire in Jabalia refugee camp, medical sources said.
In Gaza City’s Shuja’iyya neighborhood, Israeli military and engineering vehicles advanced dozens of meters overnight under artillery shelling and low-flying drone cover, moving concrete blocks marking the so-called “Yellow Line” westward to within 10 meters of Salah al-Din Street, the enclave’s main north-south artery.
Residents said they awoke to find the yellow-painted blocks beside their tents, forcing dozens of families to dismantle shelters and flee westward.
“I don’t know where to take my family,” said Amjad Harara, a Shuja’iyya resident. “The western areas are already overcrowded with displaced people.”
The Yellow Line was established under the October 2025 ceasefire as a temporary demarcation for a phased Israeli withdrawal. Instead, Israeli forces have repeatedly moved it westward, erecting permanent outposts.
Human Rights Watch said areas behind the line now account for approximately 64 percent of Gaza’s territory, confining 2.1 million Palestinians to a shrinking area.
Israel also extended the line into eastern Deir al-Balah in central Gaza on Monday, forcing residents to evacuate west of Salah al-Din Street.
The Gaza Government Media Office said the 5,474 documented violations since October 2025 have killed 1,488 Palestinians and wounded 5,280. The overall death toll since October 2023 stands at more than 74,370, with over 175,000 wounded, according to the Health Ministry.
Humanitarian agencies have warned that aid flows remain critically low, with fewer than 100 trucks entering daily against a ceasefire stipulation of 600, leaving 1.7 million displaced Palestinians facing winter without adequate shelter.
“The killing and deprivation in the Strip must not be normalized under the guise of a ceasefire agreement,” more than 100 aid organizations said in a joint statement.
