From London to Auckland, protesters across six continents demand an end to Israel’s atrocities in Gaza, sanctions on Tel Aviv, a halt to arms transfers, and accountability for Israel and governments of enabling its military operations.
LONDON — More than 200 organizations mobilized coordinated demonstrations across at least 60 countries and 250 locations on Saturday for a Global Day of Action for Palestine, marking three years since the start of Israel's military campaign in Gaza, organizers said.
The mobilization, convened by the Global Alliance for Palestine (GAFP) with support from the Anti-Apartheid Movement and the Global Coalition Against Occupation of Palestine (SANED), brought together civil society groups, trade unions, student federations, and human rights networks on six continents .
Protesters in Aotearoa New Zealand were among the first to take to the streets, with actions in at least 23 towns and cities.
In Auckland, an estimated 15,000 people marched from Te Komititanga Square to Albert Park, carrying banners reading "Genocide is a crime — Free Palestine" and "Sanction Israel now".
Wellington's Hīkoi for Palestine proceeded from Parliament grounds to Civic Square, while Christchurch and other centers held solidarity rallies.
Two protesters who had been detained during Gaza freedom flotilla missions addressed the Auckland crowd before the march, describing their experiences in Israeli custody.
Opposition party representatives, including Labor's foreign affairs spokesperson Vanushi Walters, pledged to recognize Palestinian statehood, impose sanctions on Israel, and support South Africa's genocide case at the International Court of Justice if elected in November.
In Italy, more than 50 cities held pro-Palestine demonstrations, with a national rally in Rome converging at the Colosseum before marching toward Piazzale Aldo Moro.
Turin saw over 4,000 participants, while Milan's march proceeded from Piazza della Repubblica to San Babila. Climate activist Greta Thunberg joined protesters in Naples, her first visit to the southern Italian city.
Organizers framed the day's slogan as "The end of genocide is the end of Zionism".
Greece's capital saw demonstrators gather at Eleftherias Park before marching toward the U.S. and Israeli embassies, with parallel actions in Thessaloniki. The Greek mobilization linked opposition to the war with protests against Greece's military cooperation with Israel.
In London, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign organized a national march under the banner "End the Genocide," with organizers estimating 7,000 to 10,000 participants. The route passed through Westminster Bridge, Waterloo, and Trafalgar Square.
In Malaysia, a mass rally and memorandum handover took place at the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, organized by MyCARE and PACE, alongside strategic forums and advocacy training.
Thousands rallied in the Malaysian capital to mark the third anniversary, with participants calling for an end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the resumption of humanitarian aid.
In Latin America, Santiago, Chile hosted a major march organized by FECh, Coordinadora Feminista 8M, and CIP. Mexico City's demonstration proceeded from the Ángel de la Independencia to the Hemiciclo a Juárez.
In Africa, Cape Town's Global Mass March drew thousands, organized around a central rally in the city.
In North America, CODEPINK organized a demonstration outside the Israeli Consulate in Los Angeles, while a gathering was held outside the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok.
Dr. Anas Altikriti, secretary-general of GAFP, said the mobilization represented "a decisive intervention" built on three years of grassroots organizing. "We are assembling across every continent under one clear mandate: to defend the land, end the genocide, halt military supply lines, and enforce universal international law," he said.
Organizers said the campaign is built around two linked demands — "Defend the Land" and "End the Genocide" — addressing both Israel's ongoing military operations in Gaza and settler violence, land seizures, and military raids across the occupied West Bank.
The Global Day of Action also included coordinated legislative campaigns, with participating organizations calling on lawmakers to receive constituent delegations, submit parliamentary inquiries into arms exports, and push for restrictions on arms, energy, and trade with Israel.
According to Gaza's Health Ministry, Israeli attacks have martyred at least 74,300 Palestinians since October 2023, with more than 174,000 wounded.
In the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces and settlers have martyred 1,206 Palestinians, including 254 children, and injured approximately 13,350 others over the same period.
