Ministry Plans Winter Measures to Tackle Energy Imbalance
TEHRAN — Energy conservation and consumption management are the fastest ways to address energy imbalances, a lawmaker said, adding that real-time gas network monitoring and fuel storage for power plants are also essential to get through the winter.
Ahmad Moradi, a member of parliament’s Energy Committee, said the commission’s specialized and oversight meetings, along with measures by the energy imbalance task force, have focused on preparing for potential gas pressure drops in some parts of the country during winter.
He said lawmakers and executive agencies are developing various contingency scenarios and taking preventive measures to prepare for possible supply disruptions.
Many major power plant overhauls have been completed, with generating units operating at their highest level of readiness, Moradi said. Comprehensive measures have also been taken to maximize domestic energy production and direct available capacity toward supplying the national grid.
Energy transmission and distribution networks in provinces vulnerable to gas supply pressures have also been given priority for monitoring and reinforcement, he added.
Moradi described securing liquid and alternative fuels for power plants as critical, saying preventive measures include replenishing power plant fuel reserves, addressing technical constraints in storage facilities, expanding storage capacity and finalizing winter fuel allocations for emergency generators at industrial facilities and organizations.
These measures aim to reduce critical sectors’ dependence on the national grid during peak consumption hours, he said.
Moradi acknowledged efforts by the oil and gas sector to increase production capacity but stressed the need for nationwide cooperation and energy efficiency, given the heavy reliance of households on natural gas and the possibility of supply pressures in some areas.
