Massive Barrier to Partition Gaza Complete as Israel Escalates Killings
GAZA (Dispatches) -- Israeli forces tightened their blockade of Gaza by “completing” a wide trench and earthen embankment across the Strip, while strikes on Monday wounded three Palestinians and violence in the occupied West Bank killed one man and wounded two others, Palestinian officials said.
The Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported that forces were “completing an anti-vehicle barrier consisting of a wide trench and an earthen embankment,” with drilling at regular intervals to detect cross-border tunnels.
The barrier runs east of the Yellow Line, which divides Israeli-controlled areas from Hamas-administered territory. Israel currently occupies approximately 64% of Gaza through two divisions and about 30 military positions.
The report said operational activity includes “uninterrupted targeted assassinations” of Hamas members, with Israeli sources claiming 70 members martyred last month, including three brigade commanders.
“Three years after October 7, Hamas still rules Gaza,” the newspaper’s headline read. The Yellow Line was meant as an initial perimeter for withdrawal under the October 2025 ceasefire, but Israeli forces have pushed beyond it and erected permanent outposts.
Also on Monday, an Israeli drone struck a tent in the Algerian camp in al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis, wounding three Palestinians including a child and a woman.
On Sunday, four Palestinians were killed and 19 wounded in separate Israeli strikes across Gaza, including a vehicle in Deir al-Balah and a civilian gathering north of Hamad City. A six-year-old girl died of wounds sustained days earlier while inside her family’s displacement tent.
The Gaza Health Ministry said Israeli violations of the ceasefire have killed at least 1,454 Palestinians and injured nearly 5,100 since October 2025. Since October 2023, the war has killed over 74,000 Palestinians and injured more than 175,000, with about 90% of Gaza’s infrastructure destroyed.
In the West Bank, Israeli forces shot and killed one Palestinian and wounded two others at the entrance to Bani Naim, south of Hebron (Al-Khalil). The Palestinian General Authority for Civil Affairs said occupation forces opened fire on a civilian vehicle.
The Israeli military claimed a vehicle carrying three suspects accelerated toward an army vehicle and hit it, prompting soldiers to respond with fire. Red Crescent teams were prevented from reaching the wounded.
Southwest of Jenin, settlers attacked Palestinians harvesting olives in Amriha and Al-Mukhal, injuring three: a 42-year-old man with a broken leg, an elderly man beaten and pepper-sprayed, and another with a hand injury. The injured were transported to Jenin Government Hospital.
Israeli forces also kidnapped 12 Palestinians across the West Bank on Monday, including children west of Nablus, southeast of Tubas, and south of Bethlehem.
