Convicted Terrorist Eliminated, Terror Cells Dismantled
TEHRAN -- A terrorist convicted of armed crimes and offences against national security has been executed after his case was reviewed through legal proceedings and the verdict was upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court, the Judiciary’s Media Center said on Saturday.
Siavash Jamshidi Kheirabadi, based in Shahr-e Kord in the southwestern province of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, had a criminal record that included fraud, threats, theft, illegal possession of firearms, participation in kidnapping, assault, and threatening individuals with firearms. He had also been convicted of firing a handgun near a seminary in Shahr-e Kord.
The Judiciary said Jamshidi was arrested two days after an incident in which shots were fired at police officers on Naser Khosrow Street in Shahr-e Kord amid foreign-backed riots in January.
He was identified after the vehicle used to flee the scene was traced and was arrested while carrying a handgun. An M4 rifle and two magazines were also recovered following his arrest.
According to the Judiciary, Jamshidi acknowledged during preliminary investigations that he had possessed firearms and fired at security forces. Technical examinations of his mobile phone were also said to have revealed repeated communications concerning participation in the riots and the use of firearms.
Messages exchanged by Jamshidi showed that he had sought to organize activities during the riots and had offered payments of up to one billion rials for carrying out “a mission,” the statement said.
Following the issuance of an indictment and court proceedings attended by his lawyer, Jamshidi was convicted of “moharebeh” (enmity against God) through the use and firing of a firearm, as well as assembly and collusion against national security. The death sentence was subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court and carried out.
Separately, Iran’s Intelligence Ministry said on Saturday it had captured 31 people belonging to four organized U.S.-Israeli-backed networks linked to efforts to foment unrest and carry out acts of sabotage in Sirjan county, in southern Kerman province.
In a statement, the ministry said its intelligence officers in Kerman identified and dismantled the networks following information provided by the public and intelligence monitoring.
The criminals were organized into networks using “attractive names” to lure teenagers and young people and had specific duties and plans for actively participating in nationwide calls for riots, it said.
The statement said the groups also prepared large quantities of Molotov cocktails and equipment to damage urban surveillance cameras in preparation for street unrest and acts of sabotage.
The ministry further said the groups were involved in extensive acts of violence and destruction during the foreign-backed coup in January, including setting fire to a governor’s office, damaging banks and government buildings, destroying public and private property and urban surveillance cameras, and attacking a police facility in an attempt to seize weapons.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force said it had dismantled a terrorist cell amid ongoing counterterrorism operations in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, near the border with Pakistan.
The IRGC Ground Force’s Quds Base said in a statement on Friday that the cell was detected, besieged and broken up during an operation in the highlands west of Rask County. Two terrorists were killed in the operation, while a manhunt is underway to capture the remaining members, it added.
According to the statement, the cell members were wanted for involvement in several terrorist attacks, including the recent assassination of Abdulraouf Es’haqi, a Sunni Baluch member of the IRGC, as well as an attack on a security checkpoint in Rask County.
The takfiri terrorist cell had also plotted to assassinate local members of Iran’s Basij volunteer force in the coming days.
IRGC Ground Force servicemen also recovered a Starlink satellite internet terminal, along with various weapons and munitions, from the terrorists’ hideout.
“Tampering with the security of dear residents of Sistan and Baluchestan Province constitutes a red line. Terror cells are kept under constant surveillance and will be targeted at the proper time. We will spare no effort to avenge the blood of our fallen comrades,” the statement noted.
In a separate statement on Friday, the Quds Base said an IRGC serviceman had been martyred after foreign-sponsored takfiri terrorists launched an attack in Sistan and Baluchestan.
“Following humiliating and successive defeats suffered by enemy-affiliated mercenary terrorists, during which a significant number of them were eliminated, and failure to carry out planned acts of sabotage, the militants have now resorted to cowardly and indiscriminate terrorist attacks in a bid to offset some of their losses,” it said.
It added that terrorists carried out another attack by planting a roadside bomb on a transit route in the province, which claimed the life of a serviceman.
The IRGC Quds Base stressed that such indiscriminate and cowardly acts would not undermine the resolve and determination of Iran’s Armed Forces as they work to safeguard national security and defend the homeland.
The statement emphasized that Iranian security forces will resolutely detect, pursue and eliminate terrorist elements and enemy mercenaries until their complete annihilation.
The development comes just a day after the IRGC Ground Force dismantled a terrorist team in the same province, killing six members of the group and seizing a number of explosive devices.
