‘Khanom Valede’ Dominates Iranian Box Office in 28th Week
TEHRAN — Iranian cinemas recorded 664,550 admissions and generated 88.129 billion tomans (approximately $339,000) in box office revenue during the country’s 28th theatrical week, according to figures from the Cinemashahr Institute.
The seven-day period, running from Saturday, Sept. 26 through Friday, Oct. 2, was dominated by Soheil Movaffagh’s “Khanom Valede,” which attracted 456,742 admissions, accounting for nearly 69% of the country’s total cinema audience.
Yousef Hatami-Kia’s “Escort (Guardian)” ranked second with 48,970 admissions, followed by Kazem Daneshi’s “Zendeh Shor (The Death Bath)” with 46,109.
Soroush Sehhat’s “The Pool” placed fourth with 34,230 admissions, while Hadi Muhammadian’s animated feature “Savior Ship” rounded out the top five with 31,260.
“Khanom Valede” drew more than nine times as many admissions as either “Guardian” or “Zendeh Shor (The Death Bath)” individually during the week.
The concentration was also reflected in the exhibition rankings. Kourosh Cinema Complex led individual venues with 33,954 admissions, followed by Iran Mall with 26,178, Azadi with 14,718, Hadish with 14,058 and Honarshahr-e Aftab in Shiraz with 13,607.
The 28th-week audience was higher than during the corresponding period last year, when Iranian cinemas recorded approximately 525,000 admissions. Based on those figures, this year’s audience was about 26.6% higher.
At the reported conversion rate of 260,000 tomans to $1, the week’s 88.129 billion-toman gross equates to approximately $339,000.
“Khanom Valede” remained the dominant title in Iran’s theatrical market during the week, with its 456,742 admissions vastly exceeding those of the other leading releases.
