Israel Strikes Southern Lebanon, Pushes Deeper Into Syria
BEIRUT (Dispatches) -- Israel continued its cross-border aggression against Lebanon and Syria on Saturday, while Syrian authorities pressed ahead with a crackdown on former military figures and deadly violence persisted in the Damascus countryside.
In southern Lebanon, Israeli warplanes launched two airstrikes on the town of Bani Hayyan in the Marjeyoun District, while Israeli artillery targeted the vicinity of Al-Dabsha and Wadi al-Salouqi.
The terrorist Israeli military also carried out a massive demolition at Jabal Amel Intermediate School in Houla and conducted another demolition in Beit Yahoun around 6 a.m.
Israeli warplanes struck a house on the western outskirts of Mais al-Jabal in the Hoshin area, and artillery fire hit areas around Tallet al-Dabsheh and Dhohat Kfar Roummane. These attacks constitute ongoing violations of the disgraceful ceasefire agreement.
In southern Syria, Israeli forces pushed further into villages and rural areas in Quneitra and Dara’a, conducting raids, searches, and arrests while establishing military positions and checkpoints.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Israeli forces raided the eastern neighborhood of Ma’ariya village, searching most homes and detaining two young men before releasing them.
Israeli troops also entered a locality in Quneitra Governorate, with two tanks and several military vehicles advancing westward of Saida al-Hanaut and opening random fire at residential neighborhoods.
On the domestic front, Syrian authorities expanded a September campaign targeting former military and security figures, arresting 26 people until September 28 across Latakia, Tartous, Idlib, Damascus, Dara’a, and Dayr al-Zawr. The arrests included senior military officers and former air force personnel.
In the Damascus countryside, gunmen opened fire on a vehicle in Ras al-Maara in the Qalamoun region late Friday into Saturday, killing three people and wounding seven others, including children.
Initial reports indicated the shooting stemmed from family disputes. Separately, a woman from al-Bahdaliyah was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the al-Dhayabiyah area.
