Iran Calls U.S. Aviation Sanctions ‘Bullying,’ Pursues Legal Action
TEHARN - Iran has filed a complaint with international bodies, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), over restrictions imposed on Iranian flights, government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said on Tuesday, adding that Tehran is pursuing the issue through both legal channels and negotiations.
Mohajerani said the restrictions imposed on Iranian flights were unacceptable from Tehran’s perspective and that the government was pursuing the matter through legal and international channels. She also thanked the people of Iraq for their efforts to have the restrictions lifted.
She said Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has outlined its position on the issue, while negotiations to resolve the matter are also underway. Mohajerani stressed that Iran believes regional issues should be resolved through dialogue among countries in the region.
The government spokesperson also discussed the Iranian president’s recent visit to New York and participation in the UN General Assembly, saying the trip was aimed at presenting Iran’s positions on the international stage.
According to Mohajerani, the president stressed during the visit that Iran was not the party that initiated the war but remained determined to defend itself. He also emphasized friendly relations with neighboring countries, resolving disputes through dialogue, justice and adherence to international law, as well as countries’ right to self-defense.
Mohajerani said Iran does not consider itself a war-seeking country, while making clear that it would not back down from defending itself. “We are neither afraid of war nor avoiding negotiations,” she said.
The government spokesperson said Iran had begun pursuing legal action over actions by the United States and Israel since the 12-day war.
According to Mohajerani, the legal process was intensified following subsequent incidents, including the Minab school and the Lamerd stadium attacks. She said such legal proceedings can be lengthy but stressed that the government would continue pursuing the cases.
She added that the consolidation of public complaints and related cases had begun at Branch 55 of the Tehran Justice Department, while the Presidential Legal Affairs Office, particularly its international division, was responsible for pursuing the cases.
