TEHRAN - Iranian weightlifter Ali Alipour Delivered a masterclass performance in the men’s 95kg category at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Monday, breaking the standard world records in both the clean and jerk and total to claim Iran’s eighth gold medal of the Games.
Alipour secured the title following an intense duel with Kazakhstan’s Nurgissa Adiletuly, setting new Asian and Asian Games records with a winning total of 398kg.
In the snatch, Alipour successfully lifted 175kg on his first attempt and cleared 180kg on his second, before missing 183kg on his third attempt.
Moving to the clean and jerk, the Iranian lifter opened with a successful lift of 213kg. After a failed second attempt at 218kg, Alipour rallied on his third and final attempt to hoist 218kg overhead, securing the gold medal in dramatic fashion.
Adiletuly took the silver medal with a total of 394kg (177kg in snatch + 217kg in clean and jerk), while China’s Tu Yi bagged bronze with 384kg (179kg + 205kg).
Earlier in the competition, Reyhaneh Karimi won a historic bronze medal in the women’s division, while Mir-Mostafa Javadi finished fifth in the men’s 85kg category.
