TEHRAN – Iranian kurash athlete Ramin Ahmadzadeh has settled for a silver medal in the final of Kurash competitions of Asian Games.
In the second day of Kurash competitions at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, Ramin Ahmadzadeh advanced to the final by defeating the Japanese representative but took the silver medal in the under-81kg category after losing to the Uzbek fighter.
Ahmadzadeh faced Akhror Ziyodullaev of Uzbekistan—the 2026 Asian and World Military champion—losing 3–0 and claiming the silver medal.
Ahmadzadeh achieved this Asian Games silver medal despite competing with an injury from his first match—an injury that was aggravated during the semifinal bout.
To reach the semifinals, the Iranian national team athlete first defeated Rathanan Kaonsathan of Thailand via ippon (full point/technical knockout) and subsequently overcame Ahmad Charyyev of Turkmenistan, also by *ippon*. In the semifinal match, Ahmadzadeh defeated Ken Oishi of Japan with a score of 5–0 (winning via yambash—a half-point score). Reza Ahmadzadeh, Iran’s other representative in this weight class, received a bye in the first round but was defeated 10–0 (by fall) by Japan’s Ken Oyoshi in the quarterfinals, thereby exiting the competition.
