TEHRAN – The slamic Revolution Guards Corps said on Wednesday its forces killed five terrorists and captured several others during a joint operation in the city of Saravan in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
The IRGC’s Quds Base public relations office said in a statement that a “terrorist team” planning to carry out an assassination operation in Saravan was identified through public reporting and precise intelligence surveillance, and was struck on Wednesday afternoon.
The operation was carried outby the Quds Base — comprising the IRGC, the General Intelligence Directorate and the Law Enforcement Command — resulting in the death of five “traitorous terrorists.” Several others were arrested, the statement said.
One member of the Quds Base forces was martyred during the clash, according to the statement. A number of weapons and quantities of ammunition were discovered in the team’s hideout.
The statement said the team intended to carry out terrorist actions in the province “in line with American and the cursed Zionist regime’s plotting,” and to create insecurity in Sistan and Baluchestan in an attempt to “cover up their failures.”
The Quds Base emphasized that “any breach of the security of the dear people of Sistan and Baluchestan province is a red line for the system,” adding that terrorist teams of “traitorous groups” remain under intelligence surveillance and will be targeted at the appropriate time. It thanked the region’s residents for their cooperation and patience.
