Tehran - Iran’s national men’s 3x3 basketball team secured a direct berth in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya on Wednesday after defeating Malaysia in their final preliminary group fixture.
Delivering a dominant performance in their third match of the group stage, the Iranian squad claimed a convincing 21-7 victory over Malaysia.
Seyed Muhammad Ghaffari led the scoresheet for Iran with 8 points, while Muhammad Basir Momeni and Sarem Jafari contributed 5 points apiece. Muhammad Mehdi Rahimi added 3 points to round out the scoring.
With three consecutive victories against China, Hong Kong, and Malaysia, Iran concluded the preliminary round atop their group, earning direct qualification to the quarterfinals of the Nagoya Games.
The Iranian men’s team will play their quarterfinal fixture on Thursday, with their upcoming opponent to be determined following the completion of the remaining group-stage matches and the classification bracket.
