TEHRAN - Iranian men and women chess teams produced the standout results in round five of the 46th Chess Olympiad on Monday in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Iran’s men’s team defeated Lithuania 3–1, climbing to sixth place in the standings.
Muhammad Amin Tabatabaei and Arash Daghli drew their matches against their Lithuanian opponents, while Bardiya Daneshvar and Mehdi Gholami won their games, securing an overall 3–1 victory for the Iranian squad.
Iran’s national women’s team also faced Ireland in the event, winning the match 3.5–0.5.
Mobina Alinasab, Melika Muhammadi, and Anousha Mahdian defeated their opponents, while Mitra Asgharzadeh played to a draw, producing the Iranian women’s team to secure yet another decisive victory in the tournament. 
The 46th Chess Olympiad is taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from September 16 to 27, with both the Iranian men’s and women’s national teams participating in the event.
