RAMALLAH (Dispatches) -- 
Israeli commandos on Sunday detained a Palestinian man who carried out a shooting operation against Jewish settlers illegally colonizing the occupied West Bank.
The Zionist regime deployed elite forces, police, and Shin Bet agents to capture a single individual — while entire Palestinian families are attacked, killed, and harassed daily by settlers under the protection of Israeli troops, with no such military response.
The Israeli military said troops from the Duvdevan unit stormed the H Clinic Hospital in the Al-Masayef neighborhood of Al-Bireh near Ramallah, assaulting medical staff and conducting searches before detaining the wounded Palestinian. 
Earlier in the day, the man opened fire on settlers at a natural spring near the illegal Halamish settlement, injuring a settler in his 30s who later died in hospital. 
Members of the military’s Binyamin Regional Brigade opened fire at the gunman as he fled, wounding him. The Israeli military, police, and Shin Bet then launched a manhunt before locating him at the hospital.
The scale of the operation — commandos raiding a hospital, assaulting medical staff, and mobilizing multiple security agencies — stood in stark contrast to the near-total impunity Israeli settlers enjoy when they attack Palestinians. 
Settler leader Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, called on security services to “increase the force of activities within [Palestinian] villages, go house to house collect illegal weapons, and dismantle the terror infrastructure.” 
Terrorist insecurity minister Itamar Ben Gvir demanded the death penalty for the detained Palestinian — a punishment never sought for settlers who kill Palestinians.
Under international law, armed resistance to occupation is legal. Israel has built about 160 settlements housing 700,000 Jewish settlers in the West Bank since 1967, all illegal under international law. Israel seeks to confine the West Bank’s 3.3 million Palestinians to an increasingly smaller part of their own territory.
Also on Sunday, Israeli troops shot dead 32-year-old Sami Hassan, who reportedly carried out a ramming operation near the illegal Ganim settlement east of Jenin — a settlement evacuated in 2005 and illegally reopened in August. 
Soldiers from the Paratroopers Brigade’s 890th Battalion opened fire on the car, killing Hassan and detaining a second Palestinian. Local sources told WAFA that Israeli forces withheld Hassan’s body and prevented Palestine Red Crescent Society crews from providing medical assistance.
Israeli settlers recently established a new colonial outpost on agricultural land in the town of Jaba, south of Jenin, amid repeated attacks on Palestinian farmers and restrictions on their access to their land, WAFA reported. 
Sunday’s events came amid ongoing Israeli military escalation across the occupied West Bank, marked by intensified raids, expanded surveillance, heightened restrictions on Palestinian movement, and a sustained siege of several cities and refugee camps.
