TEHRAN -- A senior adviser to the commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Sunday that the United States and Israel have been forced to retreat in the recent confrontation with Iran, and predicted that President Donald Trump and prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu would meet the same fate as Saddam Hussein.
Speaking at the 205th public gathering in Baharestan Square in Tehran, Brigadier General Ramadan Sharif, head of the Holy Defense Documentation and Research Center, said the sustained presence of Iranians at the square over the past 204 to 205 nights represents a major national asset and a decisive factor in altering enemy calculations.
Sharif said Washington and Israel launched the 12-day war and the 40-day Ramadan war on the basis of miscalculations, and refused to accept a clear historical fact that 47 years after the Islamic Revolution, Iran has faced every kind of enemy plot and stood firm despite claims of victory.
“The enemy has tested its luck many times over the past 47 years to overthrow the system and dismember the country,” Sharif said, adding that the “arrogant front” has come to understand that Iranians, drawing on their culture, religion and civilization, will never submit to pressure.
He said the bitter experience of American domination before the revolution — when U.S. advisers ruled the country and the Shah’s regime served as a client to plunder resources and suppress the people — remains fresh for Iranians, and criticized regional states he said are now being looted by Washington and dismissed with labels such as “milch cow.”
